High winds have postponed this mornings Great Balloon Race. They will try again to fly this evening. Balloons typically fly early in the morning or before sunset because that is typically the time of the day with the lowest winds.
Local media is reporting that one balloon broke free from its moorings during the balloon glow and had to take off. It landed safely in a school yard near by.
This was actually pretty dangerous. The east lawn at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center is very near the 17L runway at Louisville International Airport which was the active runway during the Great Balloon Glow. Several passenger airliners landed during the glow.
